What the Winos are thinking

I have to assume this thread on PhiladelphiaSpeaks.com reflects what the wine-lovers are thinking. They don't like the PLCB, and who can blame them?

By the way, Keith Wallace is right: the two candidates for PA governor have different stands on the PLCB. Tom Corbett is not against reform of the PLCB and The State Store System; Dan "I Balanced Pittsburgh's Budget On The Backs of Drinkers" Onorato is dead-set against it. I do not encourage anyone to be a single-issue voter, least of all on this one; but if you need to make up your mind, factor it in, eh?

Apologies: I posted this over at the Session Beer Project blog first by mistake!

  1. As a craft beer drinker and Pittsburgh resident, I have to say I am not bothered one bit by the drink tax. Frankly, if you can afford to go out for a beer, you can afford a bit more on your bill. I did not, however, know that Onorato was against reforming the PLCB and definitely want to look into this. Thanks for the info, Lew, and I can't wait to get my hands on your new Pennsylvania breweries book!

  2. I don't think you can equate the people on that forum with wine lovers. A better forum for wine lovers is PAWineTalk. The fact is, as I have said elsewhere, the quality and prices for wines in the Chairman's selection program are often better than anywhere else in the country. The prices can be checked on winesearcher and cellartracker. For some great PLCB values on wine, check out our blog, www.phillywinefinder.com. I don't know about beer, but I wouldn't want to give up the deals available through the Chairman's Selection wines.
